Revised versiomn: Nacirema

When I first finish reading about 'Nacirema', I thought it is one another banal story of ancient tribe somewhere in the world. I felt the custom is weird and unique, but nothing came to my mind. I imagined mysterious, shamanistic, and uncivilized world. Obviously, Nacirema people were living with 'unreasonable' belifes.

 However, the story of Nacirema is describnation of  American's lifestyle. It is quite shocking that each explanation of Nacirema can be connected with how modern American live. Even hospital of modern world can be depicted as 'laptiso'. While reading about 'Nacirema', I have a hard time imagining the world as described in the story, but I finally drew the ancient civilization that I saw in movies and comic books. Likewise, many people imagined the world based on their memory.Thus, even if they heard about two different ancient tribes, it is likely that they imagined similar world.

 Judging the ancient tribes based on their memory is completely wrong. We should think deeply about the culture, tradition, and lifestyle of the tribe. We should avoid emphasizing only one side based on one's prejudice. To judge correctly, it is best to consider a great variety of facts.

 Nacirema is American. The story of Nacirema tells us that we tend to look at culture with colored eye, and without much consideration. To correctly understand about past cultures, we should think deeply, objectively, and comprehensively. How shameful if future human beings regard our culture as one of ancient civilization?
